Felix Floats to 200 win and 800 semis

Day 7 at the Berlin World Championships was the first day where the weather put a slight dampener on proceedings however the athletic performances were not affected though there were a few spills in the Men's 800m semis of note.

The USA's Allyson Felix is pure poetry in motion to watch. A 'whippet' of an athlete, yet devastating in delivering winning performances as she floated to a 22:04 which would no doubt have been faster if it was not for the damp track. The Beijing Olympic Champion in the Women's 200m, Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown, took silver after attempting to put the lithe American under pressure coming off the bend however Felix slipped away with what always looks like the easiest of effort. With this kind of grace one can only wish for her to tackle the 400m as she truthfully looks as though she could threaten the World Record in that distance.

Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of the Bahamas grabbed Bronze

And there were other performances of a major proportion on a night of exceptional surprises and those moving from Silver to Gold after a long wait.

Kemboi takes elusive Gold in Steeple on Day 4 in Berlin

Kenya's Ezekiel Kemboi finally grabbed that elusive Gold on Day 4 in the Berlin World Championships on Tuesday.

His winning time was a new Championship Record of 8:00.43
and the racing over the last few laps was ferocious to say the least. The East Africans were attempting to take chunks out of each other in their pursuit of Gold which has been the domain of Kenyan born athletes for some time now.

France's Bouabdellah Tahri was trying to get a look in on this Kenyan party and hung with the big boys and was able to wrestle a medal away from them by taking Bronze with a final surge over the last 30m to split the intended Kenyan 1-2-3.

In doing so he established a new European Record with his time of 8:01.18

As was expected South Africa's Ruben Ramolefi took out the pace for the 1st kilometer which they blitzed through in 2:41.90, however instead of the tempo dropping the Kenyans simply upped it further with Paul Kipsiele Koech leading through 2km in 5:22.79 and then they lifted the pace even further for the last blitz towards the line.

The facial expressions were etched in painful and somewhat excruciating agony over the last lap with Tahri seemingly looking the most relaxed, however at this event it is expected that the Kenyans die for their country to take Gold and they were rewarded with the top 2 placings.

This was a race where the Pride of Africa was on display and Tahir was able to edge in for a gallant place on the podium.

Other events on the evening and my Fantasy scoring

In the morning session, my Fantasy Team runner, Maryam Yusuf Jamal, came through the heats relatively unscathed and looks to be on for a podium finish in the final and of course a maximum 100 points, that is once she has dealt with the semis which is only on Friday. In her race the USA's Shannon Rowbury came tumbling down but was given a reprieve and she will line up in the semis for another bite at the cherry.

Usain Bolt New World 100m Record - 9.58

There is a time and place for everything and it seems Usain Bolt picks those moments at will and then delivers performances that simply seem out of this world.

The absolutely stunning and awe inspiring  New World 100m World Record by Usain Bolt at the World Championships overshadowed all the other spectacular performances on another night of glorious athletics on Sunday.

Usain Bolt New World Record - 9.58This is the headline event and with a time of 9.58, anyone in the know sat up and must have scratched their heads, as this was simply unbelievable.

As good as the USA 's Tyson Gay is, Bolt is simply better.

The Jamaican got a reasonably good start for once (slower than all his rivals bar one) but once the tall powerfully built Olympic Champion got his frame moving it was a simply overwhelming display of brute speed and force combined to obliterate the previous record by .11 of a second, which is massive in sprinting terms.

Gay ran an excellent 9.71 for a new national Record and Asafa Powell rolled in 3rd with a time of 9.84 to round out the podium places.

We had truly witnessed the greatest sprinter in history doing what he does best, run to the top level of his ability.

And my cherry on top is that Bolt is captain in my Fantasy Team, which I am sure many others had as their banker.
