Legend Ed Whitlock passes away

The Canadian athletics community is in mourning as Ed Whitlock – a road racing legend who rewrote the 70 and older record books and forever changed the way we look at human endurance – died Monday at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. Team Canada recorded their best ever finish today at the International Chiba Ekiden in Japan. The mixed gender relay team placed seventh overall and recorded the fastest time in Canadian history covering the 42.195 km course in 2:09:28. The overall competition was won by Japan in 2:05:53. OTTAWA – Athletics Canada named eight athletes today who will travel to Chiba City in Japan for the 2014 Chiba Ekiden Road Race on November 24. The event is a mixed gender relay where men and women alternate legs to cover the marathon distance of 42.195-kilometres. The race comprises of a men’s 5km, women’s 5km, men’s 10km, women’s 5km, men’s 10km and finally a women’s 7.195km. [Read more…]
