Mondor won the prestigious Vancouver Sun Run 10 km road race Sunday also beating the course record with an outstanding time of 31:10. She also beat 2 great road and track 10 km runners by a terrific lead. Second was Sally Barsosio, (32 :14) of Kenya, and third was Aster Demissie (32 :53) of Ethiopia.

" I just did one of the best time in the world ", said Mondor, 22 years old. " I slowly realised what I just did here. At mid-race while I was alone with the men in front, one of them told me that we were in 14:59 for the 5 Km mark, I was thinking: "Well, he can’t be right…" Anyway, it was my first 10 km ever and i think the performance is very solid. The fact that it was also on a pretty challenging road course is even better", said Mondor with lots of excitement in her voice.

" To be able to accomplish a performance like that in Canada is even better for me and our sport. I think the expectations for the Olympics will be different for now on. I am fitter now and i hope to only keep healthy all along. I was thinking of running the distance in 32 minutes, so that was a surprise for me as well! ".

How to explain that performance? " I believe that is the experience. I try to learn every day. I listen to my body a lot more now. I manage my recovery in a smarter way i think. Also, the fact that i am already selected for the Olympics allows me to race on road with less stress and not to compete too much on track right now ", explained Mondor who will competed in the Olympics on the 5000m race.

Mondor’s next race is in Balmoral, Scotland on May 8th. She will be in Quebec Friday April 23rd for lots of media meetings and workshops in schools.
