Ukrainian Hladyr captures title in Women's field ... MDS Nordion 10K celebrates 20th year with record participation

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Kenyan George Kirwa Misoi wowed the crowd as he captured the MDS Nordion 10K race title for the second consecutive year in a time of 28:30. He was followed by fellow countryman Nicodemus Malakwen (28:45) and Burundi native Jean Claude Nduwingoma (29:00). Reid Coolsaet of Guelph was the top Canadian with a time of 30:10.

In the women’s category, Ukranian newcomer Tetyana Hladyr placed first with a time of 32:05, before Kenyan Jane Jeruto Kibbit (32:23). One of the big stories tonight was the comeback by Canadian Emilie Mondor who finished third with her second best career time of 32:27.

“Our athletes have performed really well and we are truly excited with how this community has embraced this weekend,” says Susan Longbottom, Ottawa Race Weekend. Participation in the MDS Nordion Race Day – part of the Ottawa Race Weekend – welcomed 13,882 running enthusiasts, an increase from 2005’s record participants of 12 021 and 9,860 participants in 2004. The MDS Nordion attracted 7315 runners, while the MDS Nordion 5K saw 6567 participants at the start line.
