Osaka, Japan – Athletics Canada is proud to announce that two Canadian delegates have been re-elected, and one elected, at the 46th IAAF Congress held at the New Otani Hotel in Osaka, Japan.
Abby Hoffman of Ottawa was reelected to the IAAF Council. She was first elected in 1995 and has since been re-elected on three occasions (1999, 2003, 2007). Dr. Danny Daniels from Sydney, BC was re-elected to the IAAF Masters Committee. Dr. Daniels has been involved with the committee since 1999; in 1997 he was elected to the Canadian Road Running Hall of Fame.
Thelma Wright from Vancouver, BC was elected to the IAAF Cross Country Committee. Thelma was inducted in the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and has been involved with 15 World Cross Country national teams as manager and coach since 1981.
Other notes from the Congress
· The dates for the 13th IAAF World Junior Championships to be held in Moncton, New Brunswick have been approved. The World Juniors will take place July 20-25 2010.
· The 13th IAAF World Championships will take place in Daegu, Korea August 27 to September 4 2011.
· The 14th World Championships will be held in Moscow, Russia August 10 to 18 2013.
· The 2008 IAAF outdoor and indoor calendars were approved. The indoor season will kick off on January 27 in Moscow. The outdoor season begins March 2 in Melbourne, Australia.
