nice going Sir .. as a matter of interest the 10k program is suitable for the half marathon however you need to increase the long run distance, and particularly on the first weekend of the program

we have got many decent results off the 10k schedule with a longer run on the weekend .. even a 62 minute half

enjoy the break

onwards and forwards

Thanks TheEd...couldn't have done it without your help I think!

62 minute half...is that a challenge? hehe

Well, thats good to hear. I quite liked your 10k training program.

I do have a serious question...Would you think it possible for me to crank sub 35min on the 10k, by mid april next year? One year worth of fairly dedicated training. I figure I have about 10lbs of blubber i could happily shave off. I also have proven to myself that i can follow a fairly strict training regime....

I also know i can actually RUN the pace required ... the only question is can i train myself up to run it for 10km...

What do you think? Doable goal?

Hi Sir .. no problem with having long term goals however in order to run a sub 35 minute 10km, you need to first run a minimum of 17 minutes or faster for 5km

everything is achievable if the runner is able to do the training accordingly, so we have to see how the progression goes

but it is something to look forward to

Cheers

Hehe, true...

According to the mcmillan calculator here:
http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/index...ite/calculator

The time for a 5k needs to be 16:51...I'm 2 minutes (or more) off that...Seems close, but i realize its probably further away than my jump from 49:xx in the 10k to 41:53.

I guess what I'm wondering if you can answer is, given my stats below, 1 year of listening to your exacting training , do you think I can do it? Or put another way, have you seen anyone like me, with similar stats, improve from around 42min 10k to a 35min 10k in a year...?

Stats:

34years old
10k time: 41:53
Weight: 170lbs/77kg -> figure about 10lbs of extra fat i could happily lose
Height: 5'10"/178cm

Probably not really answerable...

Maybe a more interesting question is if it possible for me to improve by that much, what should be some targets to measure my progress towards that goal? I'm crazy enough to plan out the next 12 months of training, with the cycles, planned downtime. And maybe with each planned cycle, you can suggest some target times I should be striving for to hit that goal?

I will start a new thread for my 35min goal...

Sir .. have replied to new thread ..

the problem with that theory (improving with each cycle) is that it doesn't take the unpredictability of life into account

nice to have a long-term goal and also short term goals

KISS is the solution

onwards and forwards
