SA 10km Championships in Ethekwini for all
The SA 10km Championships on Sunday, 19 May will be hosted by Kwazulu Natal Athletics but won’t only include the SA Championships. It will be hosted in conjunction with a mass participation event for athletes that have not been selected by their provinces, but wish to compete at this event.
The SA 10km Championship main race will start at 08:00 with the route starting and finishing at the Kings Park Athletics Stadium in Ethekwini. The route will consist of a double 5km lap. The championship athletes will have the benefit of spectator support as they race though the stadium after one lap and a unique experience of running around the Durban’s iconic Moses Mahbida stadium.
In 2012 Elroy Gelant won the men’s title in 28:36 while Irvette van Zyl (formally van Blerk) crossed the line first in the senior women’s category, her time recorded at 33:21. But this year new champions will be crowned as neither of the senior defending champions will compete at the championships. Gelant is currently busy preparing for his European leg of track and field athletics while Van Blerk will run a 10km race in India.
Entries for the SA 10km championships close on Tuesday, 14 May and need to reach the Athletics South Africa office by the closing date. Provinces must send complete entries to pieterdj @ athleticssa.co.za
The Championships are combined with the SA Masters Championships, which will see athletes in eight additional age categories from 35-39 to 70+ compete for national gold silver and bronze medals. Entries for this competition are also handled through provincial bodies to the Athletics South Africa office.
Mass participation entries should not be sent to Athletics South Africa, but directly to the race organizers.

Anybody interested in competing may enter this event by paying the amount directly to the organisers. This race will start at 06h00 in Masabalala Yengwa Road.
