Spirit of the Marathon Movie in South Africa

Award winning movie "Spirit of the Marathon" is opening on Friday, August 21st at Ster-Kinekor's Cinema Nouveau theaters. Check out sterkinekor.com for details.

Synopsis from the website:

Three-time Academy Award-winning documentarian Mark Jonathan Harris alongside award winning producers and marathon runners Jon Dunham and Gwendolen Twist have achieved the definitive feature-length marathon film with this riveting tribute to the long form of human athletic endeavour.

The film follows 5 individual athletes and tells their unique stories as they prepare to compete in the Chicago Marathon. Travelling to four different continents and bringing together a diverse selection of amateur and professional participants in order to tell their stories, the documentarians spent four long years making their film.

While many world-famous marathon racing luminaries such as Paula Radcliffe, Grete Waitz and Paul Tergat appear in the piece, the focus is particularly placed on the remarkable perseverance and personal triumphs experienced by Boston-based runner Ryan Bradley, first-time marathoner Leah Caille, 2004 Olympic bronze medallist Deena Kastor, four-time marathoner Jerry Meyers, and world-class marathoner Daniel Njenga as they prepare for and attempt to endure the gruelling 42 kilometre event.
