looking to run 40 min 10k

Hi

I have found the training plan for the 40min 10k which is my goal.

I can currently run about a 43min 10k, is it realistic to achieve a 40 min 10k in 3 weeks?

Thanks in advance, Andy

Hi Andy and welcome to the forums

it is a big step-up from 43 minutes to 40 minutes but this will depend on how much training you have in the tank and what training you are currently doing

the 10km programs are no wonder miracle but do get the runner to the goal with the correct balance

what are your plans from here?

Well I started the sub 40min 10k program yesterday and ran at a really easy pace for 56mins (not quite 60-70mins but I under estimated). I will continue to follow the plan but I will also be adding time trialing intervals etc to my training as I have a duathlon (5k run, 20k bike, 5k run) in 3 weeks then another 4 weeks after that.

I hope to do some triathlons over the summer so not fussed if I don't get to a sub 40min 10k right away. Perhaps for the second duathlon would be nice though.

I did a duathlon at the weekend with a 20m 40s 5k but then a much slower 23m 40s second 5k (windy bike ride) which I lost a lot of time and during. If I could run 2 sub 21min 5k's in 3 weeks I'd be happy.

Would you recommend anything more specific for this?

Thanks, Andy

the 2000m session should be a good session for you but start with only 4 x 2k

next week 6 x 1k should be a great deal easier

start the 2k session at 4.05 to 4.10 per k to give you 8.10 to 8.20 per 2k

the 1000m session next week can be 10 seconds per k quicker

3.55 to 4 minutes

you must be very cautious as you jumping in at the deep end and could run into problems

please provide feedback so we can try avoid problems
