Sleep deprived - to run or not to run?

As a family father, three kids, not too seldom my nights and sleeping conditions are not optimal, to say the least. Often I plan a run the following day, but end up skipping the particular workout because of a night with poor sleep.

My question is, what is more beneficial i such situations; to go for the planned run anyway, or try to catch up lost sleep? A typical situation is a night of 6 (5 hours in some cases) hour of sleep, which for me is at least one hour too little.

Views, anyone?

Thanks!

this can be a difficult aspect, however a run can help immensely

so I would recommend going for the run and if you feel terrible simply shorten it

consider having a loop which you can do twice, so after the first loop if you feeling terrible, call it quits

if you feeling good enjoy the 2nd loop

hope this helps

Thanks for asking, Ed!

I`ve been in a real running rut for the last couple of months and training has at best been sporadic. As mentioned earlier, family life takes it`s toll and squeezing in time for runs and strict training routines has lately felt overwhelming. However, I feel ready for stepping up the game again, although I probably will miss my initial goals for this season (45 min 10k).

Yes, summer is on it`s way, although here in Norway we will have to wait to june before it really sets in. I imagine it`s the same for you over in Finland, huh?

training over this time of the year is tough, and MrsDuck on this side (Finland) tried to slot in some training at the gym

though it was officially the 1st day of Spring yesterday, it was blessed with a light falling of snow

so it is a case of onwards and forwards

may your journey be enjoyable
