Ttr Icon Time for the Spur KZN Trail Series again!

The Spur KZN Trail Series promises to again be a highlight on runners’ calendars in October. Entries for the popular event are now open and going fast as KwaZulu-Natal runners plan to show the rest of the country how it’s really done.

The first Series took place in Cape Town in 2008 and has grown rapidly since then. What has made the event so popular is that it makes trail running accessible to all runners who are interested in this format of running but aren’t necessarily fit enough or keen to take on the ultra trail distances. Runners from all over the country have come to know the Spur Trail Series as the perfect place to start their trail running experience. It is a true family event that is open to everyone, from novice trail runners to experienced campaigners.

One of the reasons the Series has become so popular countrywide is because it is a lifestyle choice. Runners who enter take a step away from clock watching in huge crowds on the road into dynamic running on fun trails in wild and exciting places. The Spur Trail Series has proven itself as the perfect place to be introduced to the trail running experience. Every race consists of a long 10-15km course and a shorter 5-8km course. Once during the Series, an XL of between 21 and 28km is also thrown into the mix.

Last year’s Long Course Championship men’s category was won by Myles Usher after dominating every race in the series, while the ladies’ section was won by Jetaime Ribbink. In the Short Course Challenge Marc Nel took top honours in the men’s section and Roxanne Vale won every race to go home with the Challenge trophy in the women’s category. An exciting addition last year was the introduction of two night races and this will once again be the case when the second and third race in the series at Giba Gorge and the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve will only start after 18:00.

This year will be the third time that the extremely popular Spur Trail Series takes place in KwaZulu-Natal and promises to lure more competition, and with that faster times, than last year. There is no better way to get summer well and truly underway. Runners can race the whole series by completing at least three of the four races or just enter one or two of the races. This year’s event dates and venues are:

6 October at Inanda Dam East
9 October at Giba Gorge (Night Race)
16 October at Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve (Night Race)
19 October at iSithumba, including XL
