Post Pre-event Maritzburg SPAR Women's 10k 2015

The Maritzburg SPAR Women’s 10/5km is set to warm up hearts and the roads around Alexandra Park, in Pietermaritzburg this winter when thousands of women, children and their supportive friends and partners come out to enjoy South Africa’s Most Beautiful Road Race on Sunday 23 August 2015.

Women from all walks of life, young and old are invited to take part in this mass fun event, the second biggest annual road running event to take place in the city aside from the Comrades Marathon. It is open to both professional and non-professional runners who can brave the chill of the capital city.

The Pietermaritzburg event has slowly been drawing in big names that have over the years included Grace de Oliveira, Tanith Maxwell, Poppy Mlambo, Kerry Koen, Jenna Challenor together with elite Olympic runner, Rene Kalmer who claimed first prize last year, clocking in at 34:12. Nolene Conrad, after her personal best in Durban will be back to see if she can better her second from last year.

A host of lucky draw prizes to the value of R45 000 will be given away in the draw after the race including a two night mid-week break for two at Elephant Rock Private Safari Lodge and a two night stay for two people at Montusi Mountain Lodge. Online entrants additionally stand a chance to win a three night mid-week stay for two at Fordoun Hotel and Spa.

The official race charity is CHOC (The Childhood Cancer Foundation) and R2 from every entry will be donated to them.

Both the 5km and 10km start at 08:00 from the Oval, Alexandra Park. Entries are limited to 4,000 and the 10km race is open to entrants 14 years and older and the 5km 9 years and older. Entry fees are R85 for the 10km licensed athletes and for the 5km runners. R95 is the entry fee for the non-licensed athletes; the extra R10 includes a temporary licence for the day.

Entrants can collect their race bibs, T-Shirts and promo bags from the Oval Cricket Stadium, Alexandra Park on Friday, 21 August from 10:00 to 17:00 and on Saturday, 22 August from 10:00 to 15:00. No packs will be given out on race day. All finishers will receive a free breakfast pack on the day.
