Austrian Pumper admits positive test
VIENNA, Austria: Long-distance runner Susanne Pumper of Austria has reportedly tested positive for doping.
Pumper told the Austria Presse Agency on Thursday that she tested positive for an unspecified banned substance following a half marathon in Vienna on March 9, but denied any wrongdoing.
"I have never taken a banned substance, so I will do everything to prove my innocence," Pumper said. "I will ask some experts to look into all the details of that A sample, they will analyze it thoroughly."
She will be suspended by the Austrian athletics federation until her B sample is tested and will miss the Vienna City Marathon on April 27.
The 37-year-old Pumper won a half marathon in an Austrian record time of 1 hour, 12 minutes, 21 seconds last Sunday.
Pumper, who failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics, took the silver medal in the 3000 meters in a career-best result at the 2005 European Indoor Championships in Madrid, Spain.
