Alan Dunne as born in Dublin in 1975
raised in Portlaoise and London before returning to his roots
in April 2000.
His grandmother, uncle and cousin (who competed for Ireland
at under-age level) being keen runners led to an interest
in the sport from an early age, taking it up competitively
in his early teens. In 1990, a year after taking up the sport,
he was 3rd in the Bucks County Championship with a time of
2.06 in the 800m. This was to be the highlight of an illustrious
career as injury dogged his attempts to advance the following
season and he turned his attentions eventually to football.
It were these injuries that led to Alan's interest in the
field of massage therapy as the injuries followed him relentlessly
in football also. While he did not pursue this interest immediately
in a professional sense, it eventually led him to qualifying
in January (as a Sports and Remedial Therapist, a Massage
Therapist and a Neuromuscular Therapist ) under the guise
of John Sharkey, Sports Therapist to the Irish Olympic team.
Alan currently practises in Phibsborough where he treats
athletes from all sporting backgroundsas well as clients with
everyday problems such as bad backs and sore necks. He recently
became Sports Therapist to Raheny FC which includes helping
out with Irish youth soccer teams in home internationals.
