§ All 4 Athens bound race walkers in action in IAAF
Grand Prix in La Coruna as part of their build up to the Olympic
Games. ?.
§ Dessau, Germany Freda Davoren in action after a gutsy
performance in Solihull will take on a great field. Also in

Paul Hession, and Maura Prendiville
§ On the domestic front the Milers club will host the
IMC invitational mile in conjunction with the All-Ireland
Schools where many of our youngest stars will be in action
and Roger Bannister will attend the meeting to present the
victory prizes.
§ After a the disappointment of the late withdrawal
of Tomas Coman as well as the 4 x 400m relay cancelled from
the programme in the meeting in Zaragosa - the 4 x 400m relay
team will begin their bid for qualification in Bydgoszcz,
Poland with great energy and excitement. This relay team and
its members has put Ireland on the map in terms of World Sprinting
after taking home bronze from the World Indoors, and while
two of the key members of the team are not present this weekend
they will none the less post an excellent performance and
the question is just how good can they go?. The meeting promises
to be an excellent one and will indeed give a good idea to
the team where they stand in the world rankings at present.
§ Across the Atlantic both Gareth Turnbull and Mark
Carroll are in action again. Mark after his achievement of
the qualification standard last weekend over 5,000m is entering
the 10,000m in Canada with confidence and composure. Mark
has indeed bounced back after his withdrawal from the London
Marathon to answer the critics with great form on the track.
Lets hope Mark can post the 10K standard this weekend to add
to the 5K and the marathon.
§ Across the Irish Sea a Northern Ireland and Irish
Developmental team will compete in Loughborough on Sunday
6th. This meeting will give an opportunity to many of our
rising stars to get some experience at international meetings.
At the same time some of our top sprinters will compete, Paul
Brizzel will compete in the 100m, Ciara Sheehy in the 200m
and in the hurdles both Derval O'Rourke and Peter Coghlan
will compete.
