More than 200 athletes are set to gather in Cork for the 55th BUPA Ireland Cork City Sports this weekend. Athletes from 32 countries with compete in 20 events and some well-known names are in the line-up.

Newly-crowned world champion Derval O'Rourke is chasing her first win at the event in the 100m hurdles, while the men's 3000m presents an intriguing line-up with Mark Carroll, last year's winner Craig Mottram and Alastair Craig all competing. This will be South Africa-born Cragg's first time running in the event.

Gold medal winner at the Athens Olympics Marlon Devanish has signed up to compete in two events - the 100m and 200m sprint.

Sonia O'Sullivan will attend the event again this year, though the crowds will be kept guessing as it's still not entirely decided whether she will compete or spectate.

"Our first athletes start arriving tomorrow from America," said Cork City Sports chairman Dick Hodgins. "We have a team of liaison officers to collect the athletes at the airport, take them to their accommodation and advise them in general for their stay here."

The international events will start at 2pm on Saturday and will be preceded by school relays, where emerging talent will get a chance to show their stripes.

"It acts as a great encouragement to the young people coming through to see the international athletes competing," said Dick.

BUPA Ireland is the event's main corporate sponsor.
