Connemarathon 2016 held in tough conditions

connemarathon ireland

The Connemarathon 2016, held its fifteenth edition of their events, consisting of a half marathon, full marathon and 39.3 mile ultra marathon all on Sunday April 10th. The day proved an enormous success with runners coming in from 29 countries to participate in what is widely known as a magical running experience.

Weather conditions on Sunday proved for very challenging conditions for the participants, both physically and mentally although it didn’t reflect badly on the winners over all times which were still quite impressive! Irish athlete Keith Whyte stormed home in first place in the Ultra Marathon to a huge acclaim.

As the runners and walkers came through the finish line, they were awarded with their welldeserved finisher’s medal and high quality t-shirt, both of which came with fabulous new designs this year! Each participant was also greeted at the finish line with warm homemade soup and cake amongst other refreshments which were wonderfully prepared by Peacocke’s hotel, which is located alongside the finish line.

Anticipation is growing for the 2017 Connemarathon date announcement, which will be published on their website very soon.

The Connemarathon management would like to make a special thank you to all of the Gardaí, marshals and staff who manned the water stations and finish line while holding a smile on their face in those horrible conditions! A special recognition to Titan HQ, who is the headline sponsor of the Connemarathon and to Kenny Motors, Nature Valley and Redbull.
