Connemara International Marathon set for April 2016

connemara marathon

Set in the wild west of Ireland, the Connemara International Marathon is widely regarded as one of the world’s most spectacular events. While taking in the most breath-taking scenery that Ireland has to offer, runners and walkers will enjoy an internationally orientated day in the heart of the Wild AtlanticWay.

Connemara International Marathon 2016 set for Sunday, April 10th 2016

The fifteenth Connemarathon will kick off on Sunday, April 10th 2016 with the Half, Full and Ultra Marathon, attracting both novice and elite runners and walkers from every corner of the world. The unique route offers a variety of spectacular land forms, travelling along rugged hills, the twelve pin mountain range, stunning glacier lakes and the great expanse of Killary Lough, through the quiet sleepy village of Leenane, around the Maam Turk Mountains and up the ‘hell of the west’ to Maam Cross.

International participants enjoy the warm Irish welcome along with the sense of comradeship on the route and the unmistakable buzz throughout the day. No other sporting event will send people away with such a taste of Ireland and its highlights.

In 2004, the addition of the 39.3 mile ultra marathon distance has proved an enormous success and has added new challenging prospects to those looking to relive the Connemarathon experience which is growing in numbers year on year from just 73 runners in 2001 to its sell out capacity in excess of 3,000 participants to date.

The Connemarathon takes a noticeable interest in all of its participants, with helpful accommodation & travel suggestions, bus transfer from all major towns to the start line and home again, lots and lots of water, fruit and sports drinks, post-race lunch, medical personnel & race doctor, over 200 enthusiastic volunteers, the technical running tee & medal and one hell of a welcome at the finish line!

Without a doubt, you will return home with the elation of finishing one of the world’s truly magical marathon experiences.

An Ireland Experience
