Maltese 800m runner Tanya Blake was one of seven Golden category
winners in the 2003 Sports Awards organised b the Malta Olympic
Committee. The aim of these awards is to honour those who
accomplish outstanding achievements during the year and Blake
certainly fitted the bill to perfection. Not only did she
win four medals - two of which were gold - during the Games
for the Small States of Europe but she also managed to go
below the two minute mark in her event.
Athletics was also well represented in the other categories
with Nikolai Portelli and Carol Galea winning the Silver Award
and Ricky Baldacchino, Rebecca Camilleri and Darren Gilford
the Bronze. In fact, all athletes who were nominated managed
to win an award making athletics the sport that managed to
claim most titles at the 2003 Sports Awards.
