 Welcome to the Berlin Marathon

The Berlin Marathon has always been recognised as one of the fastest courses in the World, on an even par to Chicago, but better because of there being less possibility of it being windy with a bad chill factor.

The course has seen records established in both the Women's catergory on two occasions, by Kenya's Tegla Laroupe and Japan's Naoka Takahashi , who became the first woman to break 2:20. On the Men's side Brazil's Ronaldo De Costa blazed to a 2:06:05 WR, which stood as the course record till the 28th September when Paul Tergat of Kenya reduced the record to a stunning sub 2:05 time of 2:04:55, and in the process was chased all the way to the line by compatriot Sammy Korir would also eclipsed the barrier with a time of 2:04:56.

Korir was one of the designated pacesetters and was followed home by countryman Muiji in 3rd with a solid 2:06:15 . Making the 2003 race the fastest race in history.

Add to this the overall development of the race to where Berlin now receives 35 000 participants and you have an event challenging the best in the World.
