HAMILTON, BERMUDA, – Put away the parkas and lace up the running shoes for the 31 st Annual BermudaInternational Race Weekend, organized by the Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) and sponsored by the Bermuda Department of Tourism. On January 13-15, 2006, local and overseas participants will mingle and run with elite runners from all over the world in a bid to follow their New Year’s resolutions to get fit, set a record and leave the cold to run along Bermuda’s historic streets with the Atlantic Ocean at their heels.
The weekend kicks off on Friday at 7:20 p.m. with the KPMG Bermuda Invitational Mile, Title Sponsors of the event for the first year. Thousands of spectators will be on hand to cheer on racers in the Under 12, Under 18, Local Adult and International Elite categories.
The excitement continues at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with the 31st AnnualBermuda International 10K and non-competitive Charity Walk 10K. The walk’s scenic loop course starts and finishes at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire. Part of the net proceeds of charity walk will be donated to the Bermuda Diabetes Association. Entry fee for the 10K Race is $30 and $20 for the Charity Walk.
The Bermuda International Marathon and Half Marathon take center stage on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Local, overseas and elite athletes will follow a loop, 13.1-mile shoreline course for the Bermuda International Half Marathon. Marathoners will run the 13.1-mile loop twice to complete the 26.2-mile course in an attempt to break into the record books. Registration fee for the Marathon is $40, while the Half Marathon costs $30.
Early-bird registration must be airmailed by November 30, 2005. Late registration after December 1, 2005, is $60 per race. Nearly $25,000 in prizes will be awarded for the top finishers in all competitive races.
