PEORIA, Ill. - (June 7, 2004) - The Steamboat Classic announces
that East Peorian Tim Broe, one of America's Olympic hopefuls,
will run, but will not "race" this year's event
to be held on Saturday, June 12. Tim, the 2002 Steamboat Champion,
will use the four mile road race as an easy training run with
his fiancée, Vanessa Bell.
Steamboat Classic Elite Athlete Coordinator, Glenn Latimer
says, "We are very pleased that Tim continues to support
his hometown race. We have been lucky to watch him grow up
as an excellent athlete and fine young man. We will be supporting
him all the way on his Olympic journey."
Steamboat Classic Race Director, Philip Lockwood says, "We
understand Tim's highest priority is making the U.S. Olympic
Team at 5000 meters in July. We're glad he can join us and
run with others in the middle of the pack. It should be a
thrill for his Illinois Valley Striders club mates - they're
his biggest fans. We're all proud of Tim's accomplishments
and continued loyalty. We wish him well as he prepares for
a trip to Athens, Greece."
