Kimberley Smith finished third in the Hydro Active women's challenge 5km road race in Hyde Park, London on Sunday.

The overseas based Aucklander recorded 15m 50s.

The race was won by Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia in 15m 30s, five seconds ahead of Susan Chepkemei of Kenya. Smith, who recently won the world university games 5000m title, led the race through 1km in 2m 58s and was with the leaders through 3km in 9m 18s, before the Africans pulled away.

A total of 22,000 women took part in the race. Smith's next race will be the Bupa 3km road race in Newcastle on 17 September. Also competing in this race will be Isabella Ochichi of Kenya, Olympic Games 5000m silver medalist and eighth at Helsinki, Briton Joanne Pavey and American Amy Rudolph.

Adrian Blincoe was 11th in the 1500m at the IAAF Golden League meeting in Berlin yesterday. Blincoe, from Auckland but overseas based, recorded 3m 38.61s. Daniel Komen of Kenya won in 3m 29.72s.
