Melissa Moon rounded out her racing, before the world mountain running championships, in fine style taking second in the Australian cross country championship on Saturday.
Moon had a great battle with Susan Michelsson of Melbourne over the 8000m course, at the Victoria Park Racecourse in Adelaide. Michelsson won in 28m 27s, just one second ahead of Moon.
Michelsson has raced in New Zealand in the past, having won the 1998 New Zealand half marathon championship in Huntly in 74m 37s.
It was Moon's final race before the world mountain running champs in Wellington on September 25.
Andrew Haigh of Auckland finished fourth in the men's 20 8000m in 25m 57s.
Adrian Blincoe, competing in the IAAF Grand Prix meeting in Rieti Italy, yesterday, ran a personal best 1500m, in finishing 10th in 3m 35.50s. This improves on his 3m 35.65s run in Stockholm on July 26. The race in Italy was won by Bernard Lagat of USA in 3m 29.30s.
Meanwhile in Flint Michigan, yesterday, Nina Rillstone of Auckland finished fifth in the annual Crim international 10 mile road race. Rillstone recorded 56m 6s, 2m 32s behind the winner Alevtina Ivanova of Russia.
