New Zealand Athletics

Michael Aish led in a trio from New Zealand in the annual Chicago Marathon yesterday.

Aish finished 25th, in the men's section, in 2h 24m 3s, with Craig Kirkwood 27th in 2h 24m 5s and Matt Dravitzki 29th in 2h 25m 27s.
Aish and Kirkwood were together through the half way in 1h 7m 15s, before Aish eased ahead to to be nearly a minute up on Kirkwood at 40km.

However Kirkwood came through with a fast finish over the final 2km.
Kenyan athletes filled the first ten places, Felix Limo winning in 2h 7m 4s, seven seconds ahead of Benjamin Maiyo.

Deena Kastor of USA beat world half marathon champion Constantina Tomescu of Romania by five seconds for the women's title in 2h 21m 24s.

Over 40,000 runners from 125 countries took part.

Men: Felix Limo (Kenya) 2h 7m 4s 1, Benjamin Maiyo (Kenya) 2h 7m 11s 2, Daniel Njenga (Kenya) 2h 7m 14s 3. Also Michael Aish (NZ) 2h 24m 3s 25, Craig Kirkwood (NZ) 2h 24m 5s 27, Matt Dravitzki (NZ) 2h 25m 27s 29.

Women: Deena Kastor (USA) 2h 21m 24s 1, Constantina Tomescu (Romania) 2h 21m 29s 2, Masako Chiba (Japan) 2h 25m 59s 3.
