MARSEILLE, France -- European marathon record holder, Benoit Zwierzchiewski of France, has been remanded in custody after illegal substances were found at his home in Marseille, judicial sources said.

The sources said Zwierzchiewski was put in custody in the Marseille drug squad headquarters on Tuesday. They were unable to say whether he was still being detained on Wednesday.

Zwierzchiewski, 29, equaled the European marathon record in 2003 with a time of two hours six minutes 36 seconds.
