Kate McIlroy carved nearly eight seconds off her New Zealand national 3000m steeplechase record in finishing third in the Australian championship in Sydney on the fourth and final day of the hampionships on Sunday.
McIlroy recorded 9m 40.20s to better her New Zealand record set in winning the New Zealand title in Christchurch last week.
The 24 year old world mountain running champion has only competed in the steeplechase on three occasions and each time has set a New Zealand record.
McIlroy was headed in by Australia's Melissa Rollison in 9m 35.46s and Donna MacFarlane 9m 40.06s.
James Dolphin won his heat of the 200m in 20.82s, but was only seventh in the final. Matthew Brown came through the heats in 20.90s and was fifth in the final in 20.99s.
Andrea Miller failed to achieve the selection standard for the Games in the 100m hurdles after finishing second in the final and Nic O'Brien was yet again just outside the Games standard in the 400m hurdles taking fourth in the final in 50.41s.
