Nick Willis edged out two time world champion Bernard Lagat of the USA at the tape to win the 28th running of the Fifth Avenue Mile early this morning New Zealand time.

Ron Robertson of Gisborne set a world record for the Men 65-69 age group in the 2000m steeplechase at the Oceania Masters Athletic Championships in Townsville Australia.
Robertson was a clear winner in 7m 18.10s, beating Australia's Peter Sandery by 44 seconds.
Robertson also won the 65-69 gold medal in the 8km cross country 31m 30s, 1500m 4m 54.99s and the 5000m 18m 25.64s.

Andrea Miller shaved one hundredth of a second off her own New Zealand national 100m hurdles record in finishing second in 13.12s (+0.9) at the 17th Memorial Leon Buyle meeting in Oordegem-Lede Belgium
NZ: Blincoe breaks Quax's 5000m record
Heusden Belgium
Adrian Blincoe broke Dick Quax's 31 year old New Zealand National 5000m record at the KBC Night of Athletics in Heusden Belgium last evening.
Blincoe, aged 28, finished 11th in 13m 10.19s to beat Quax's then world record of 13m 12.87s, set in Stockholm on 5 July 1977.

Race Walking expert Jack Tregurtha dies
New Zealand walking stalwart and rules expert Jack Tregurtha of Hastings passed away last evening (Thursday) after a short illness. Tregurtha, aged 71, was the president of Athletics Hawkes Bay Gisborne as well as secretary of the centre.
