Scott Winton of Auckland cleared out over the closing stages to successfully defend his New Zealand road title at Unitec in Auckland today.
Winton won the 10,000m race around the roads of the campus in Mt Albert in 30m 38s, beating fast finishing Luke Hurring of Otago by a narrow margin of three seconds. Ben Ruthe of Waikato Bay of Plenty just held on to third ahead of Canterbury's Rowan Hooper.
Jessica Ruthe was in a class of her own showing a clean pair of heals to the rest in the women's 10,000m. Ruthe won in 33m 47s, over two minutes ahead of Rowan Baird. Otago's Kellie Palmer was third.
The 19 division winners were Mathew Mildenhall and Camille Buscomb.
The best of the masters were Richard Bennett with a time of 32m 3s for the 10,000m and Marion Millward who covered the 5000m in 19m 10s.
