A bone scan has confirmed Nick Willis' worst fears, a stress fracture of the left shin fibular bone.

The Melbourne Commonwealth Games 1500m gold medallist had the scan done in Hawaii, on his way back to his base in Michigan.
Willis will be out of action for up to eight weeks.

He will be back in New Zealand in mid-February.
