Dale Warrander wins cross country race

Dale Warrander took time out from his marathon training for the World Championships to win the Wellington senior men's cross country championship race at Waikanae Park on Saturday.

Warrander led in Rees Buck, Ben Ruthe and Dougal Thorburn.

Alice Mason won the women's title from Vicki Humphries and Suzi Richards.

Hooper wins Canterbury title

Rowan Hooper won the Canterbury senior men's title at New Brighton on Saturday. Hooper covered the 12km in 37m 36s, beating Matt Smith by 23 seconds with Andrew Davidson third.

Tania Causer won the women's 8km in 29m 16s. Julia Scoones was second in 29m 45s, nearly a minute ahead of third placed Ruth Croft.

Tauranga athletes make clean sweep

Tauranga athletes made it a clean sweep taking the first four places in the senior men's Waikato Bay of Plenty cross country championship at Waipuna Park Tauranga. Michael Pugh won the 12km in 40m 25s, ahead of Iain MacDonald, Kyle Macdonald and Craig Kirkwood.

Emily Gear of Hamilton City Hawks won the women's 8km in 33m 33s, half a minute ahead of Tauranga's Laurie Pugh with Dawn Tuffery of Hawks third.

Smith wins Hawkes Bay XCountry

Neville Smith of Hastings won the Hawkes Bay Gisborne senior men's cross country title, raced over a 2km hilly, muddy circuit at Gisborne. Smith recorded 49m 36s. Shayna Heywood of Napier won the women's title covering the 8km in 51m 14s. 19 winners were David Morton and Katie Harris both Hastings. Andrea Williams of Hastings won the masters women and Napier's Mark Speakman won the Masters men.

Hyett 1:48.21 in Belguim 800m

At the Guldensporenmeeting in Kortrijkse Belgium, Gareth Hyett was third in the 800m in 1m 48.21s, with Max Smith sixth in 1m 50.60s. Paul Hamblyn was fifth in the 1500m in 3m 43.13s.

Stewart 4th in Germany

At the Cuxhaven meeting in Germany Jason Stewart was fourth in the 800m in 1m 48.27s. Won by Leonard Kibet in 1m 46.95s.

Blincoe 3:38.66 in Sheffield UK

Adrian Blincoe finished 11th in the 1500m at the British GP meeting in Sheffield in a time of 3m 38.66s, under the B standard of 3m 39s for selection to the world championships. Race won by Andrew Baddeley of GB in 3m 34.74s. Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia won the 3000m in 7m 26.69s from Australia's Craig Mottram 7m 35.00s.

Wyatt earns further points in Austria

Jonathan Wyatt, the 2006 world mountain running grand prix winner, chalked up valuable points in the 2007 series winning the Grossglockner 12.67km mountain race in Austria. Wyatt recorded 1h 12m 22s in the race which climbed 1514m. Marco Gaiardo of Italy was second in 1h 13m 13s.
