New Zealand Athletics


New Zealand will have six representatives the World Mountain Running Trophy Championship in Switzerland on 15 September.

Twice world champion Melissa Moon of Wellington has been selected along with Sarah Chisnall and Anna Frost both from Dunedin for the senior women's championship.

Angus Bell of Auckland and winner of the recent New Zealand title in Nelson is the sole representative in the senior men. Aaron Jackson of Auckland, New Zealand junior champion for the past two years will contest the junior championship and Ruth Croft of North Canterbury will compete in the junior women, at the championships to be held on an up and down course in Saillon Ovronnaz.

The team will be managed by Barry Ellis of Tauranga.

Meanwhile Wellington's Jonathan Wyatt, five times world mountain running champion has opted for and been selected to compete for New Zealand at the World Long Course Mountain Running on 8 September at Interlaken in Switzerland. Wyatt, who finished second in the Kaunertaler Berglauf 15km 979m climb event in Austria over the weekend, won the long course championship in 2003.

Also selected are Martin Lukes from Christchurch together with Aucklanders Mark Bright and Seaton Meredith to compete at the IAU 100km world cup running championship in Winschoten Netherlands on 8 September.
