Media Award - Bev Peterson
Bev PetersonBev is the track and field reporter on the Christchurch Newstalk ZB Saturday afternoon "Scoreboard" programme. She has provided reports during the track and field season for the best part of a decade. She has an in-depth knowledge of the current athletes and the history of the sport. She shows enthusiasm and warmth in her reports which makes listeners raise a smile.




Sprinter of the Year - Monique Williams
Monique WilliamsMonique stole the show at this year's National Track and Field Championships when she won the women's sprint treble over 100m, 200m and 400m. She then went on to win the 200m at the Australian Championships in Brisbane and followed up by winning the 200m and 400m at the Australian U23 track and field champs in Adelaide.





Hurdler of the Year - James Mortimer
James MortimerJames currently holds the New Zealand record for the 110m hurdles. He set this record of 13.71sec at this year's Australian Championships. He also won the hurdles award last year and has been New Zealand's top male hurdler for several years winning the national 110m hurdles every year since 2003





Middle Distance Athlete of the Year - Nick Willis
Nick WillisNick is the current Commonwealth Games Champion over 1500m. He holds the New Zealand record of 3min 32.17sec for this distance. His recent success has put the spotlight back onto middle distance running in New Zealand.







Distance Athlete of the Year - Tony Sargisson
Tony SargissonTony's dramatic surge through the field of the 50 kilometre walk at the Melbourne Commonwealth games produced a silver medal. In this inspirational performance he reduced his personal best by six minutes over 50 kilometres to 3hr 58min 5sec.





Thrower of the Year - Valerie Vili
Valerie ViliValerie is the current Commonwealth Games shot put champion. She holds the Commonwealth and Area record for the shot put at 20.20 metres.







Jumper of the Year - Jessica Penny
Jessica PennyAs well as being a top performer in the junior grade, Jessica competed in the senior grade over the last summer. She was second in the long jump at both the Australian Athletic Cup in Brisbane and again at the Australian U20 and U23 Championships. In New Zealand she was second in the long jump at the IAAF Permit Meet in Christchurch. At this years National Track and Field Champs she won the senior women's long jump title.





Athlete with a Disability of the Year - Jessica Hamill
Jessica HamillJessica is the New Zealand AWD champion for the shot put, discus and javelin. She holds the AWD senior and junior record for the shot put at 7.00 metres. At this year's Australian Championships she won the senior AWD shot put.







Masters Female Athlete of the Year - Angela McKee
Angela McKeeAngela is ranked number one equal in the world for her age group (F35) over the high jump. She won the New Zealand Masters Jumper of the year award. At the Melbourne Commonwealth Games she won the bronze medal in the high jump.





Masters Male Athlete of the Year - Trevor Ogilvie
Trevor OgilvieTrevor is ranked number one in the world in his age group (M55) for the steeplechase. He won the New Zealand Masters Award for middle distance athlete. He also competes at cross country and road races.







Junior Female Athlete of the Year - Jessica Penny
Jessica PennyJessica was fifth in the World Juniors Long Jump in Beijing last year. She broke the New Zealand Junior Record with her performance of 6.37 meters. She is one of the top performed junior athletes at jumping and sprinting. Jessica is also the "Jumper of the Year"






Junior Male Athlete of the Year - Kieran Fowler
Kieran FowlerKieran has dominated the hurdles, long jump, discus, shot put, pole vault and decathlon as a junior athlete. At this level he has won a number of titles at the NZ Secondary Schools Championships and National Track and Field Championships. He has also continued to break a number of Canterbury records in some of these disciplines.






Administrator of the Year - Graham Dudfield
Graham DuffieldGraham is in charge of the results system when national events are held in the Waikato region. He is also selector for the Waikato- Bay Of Plenty winter teams for national championships. As race director for three major local road races he continues to improve these events with his excellent knowledge of athletics administration.






Technical Official of the Year - Trevor Spittle
Trevor SpittleTrevor is a well known and respected official both in Australia and New Zealand. He officiated at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and as ITO at the IAAF World Junior Champs in Beijing. He was the meeting manager at the last Track and Field Championships in Inglewood. This year he will officiate as an ITO at the World Athletics Final in Stuttgart.






Outstanding Contribution to Athletics - Jeannette Vivian
Jeannette VivianJeannette was involved with athletics for nearly 30 years. Children's athletics and the sport have a lot to be thankful for in that she served for such a long time and so consistently well. Jeannette passed away suddenly on 10 May 2007 while holidaying with her husband in Scotland.






Athlete of the Year - Valerie Vili
Valeria Vili - Athlete of the YearValerie is the current Commonwealth Games shot put champion. Last year she also won the shot put at the World Cup in Athletics. She holds the Commonwealth and Area record for the shot put at 20.20 metres.

The 22 year old Aucklander has won the senior national shot put title every year since 2001. She is currently ranked number two in the world by the IAAF, the highest ranking of any Athletics New Zealand athlete. Valerie manages to rise to the occasion whenever she competes so it's no wonder that this is the second year in a row that she has won the Athlete of the Year Award.
