Dallas Bowden followed up his second placing in the 1500m on day one of the track and field competition at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney with a second in the 800m on day two of competition.

Bowden's time of 1m 53.72s gave him a further world youth championships qualifying time.

Te Rina Keenan set a New Zealand national women's 16 discus record with her throw of 49.58m. This betters her pending record of 48.54m set in Auckland in mid November. Keenan has thrown further than the world youth champs selection standard of 42m in all of her competitions this season.
Keri Tongalea was second in the men's shot put and third in the discus with 54.17m. Tongalea's discus exceeds the standard of 54.00m and qualifies him for selection to the world youth champs.

Other second placings went to Sinisa Zaorac in the men's pole vault and Mariah Ririnui in the women's long jump. Camille Buscomb was third in the 3000m.
