Athletics New Zealand Black Singlet Series of meetings start on Wednesday evening at the Caledonian Ground, Logan Park Dunedin.
Local Chris Donaldson will feature in the 100m.
The three times New Zealand champion and representative at Olympic and Commonwealth Games and World Championships has a best time this season of 10.72s in Timaru in mid-December.
Donaldson will be up against the in-form Craig Bearda from Counties Manukau who has times of 10.66s and 10.73s to his credit this season.
Also lining up in the 100m will be Donaldson's Hill City club mate Andrew Moore and Todd Mansfield.
The men's 200m will be a close race with James Mortimer, Mansfield, Moore and Bearda all in action.
Anna Smythe another local and a Caledonian Ground favourite should feature strongly in the women's 100m and 200m. Smythe the 2005 national 200m champion will face Erica Prescott and Nicola and Fiona Hely in the 200m.
Kellie Palmer of Hill City, the current national 800m champion will open her 800m campaign this season.
Phil Costley, New Zealand 3000m champion in 2002, should dominate the 3000m.
Paul Gibbons of Taieri will make an appearance in the pole vault. The 10 times New Zealand champion will be up against Peter Cox and Michael Ball.
Melina Hamilton, 11 times national champion will compete in the women's pole vault and Debbie McCaw 2005 national champion is down for the women's hammer throw.
The meeting starts at 5.30pm and finishes at 8pm.
Further Black Singlet meetings will be in Wanganui on Saturday, Hamilton on Waitangi Day 6 February and Wellington on 10 February.
