Cape Town – South Africa - The 31-year old Mr Price athlete, Makhosonke Fika who recently had to withdraw from the Rotterdam marathon due to 'laryngitis', was in sparkling form on his comeback with a good win at the Safari-half marathon.

Fika's two team-mates Neo Molemo and Thembelani Zola, attempted to challenge Fika, however they were unable to match the power of the seasoned athlete, who is under the guidance of Time-to-Run Cape Town, resident coach Dave Spence.

The tall Fika did not have matters all his own way, and had a hard fought race on his way to the time of 65:20, with Zola losing out by a mere 3 seconds. Molemo couldn't sustain the pace, and came home in 3rd with 66:48.

More than 5000 entrants participated in this event, and more would have run if it were not for the fact that the Two Oceans had been run so recently.

Fika has a best of 61:58 over 21K, however this result was most promising as it has signaled his return after the bout of illness. With Fika having finished 2nd at the Singapore Marathon towards the end of 2002, Rotterdam was to be an attempt on improving his Personal Best for the marathon, which stands at 2:10:39 for 6th at Paris.

The Women's title was one by the ever consistent Bulelwa Mtshagi in 79:09.
