Neolithic Marathon : Cussen wins posted 05May
On Sunday 4th May Chris Cussen of the Gillingham Trotters took part in the Neolithic Marathon. This race is cross country using the Sarsen Trail and goes from Avebury to Stonehendge. The event is part of a fund raising activity organised by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, and also included walks of 25, 15 and 11 miles and a half marathon. With a warm day and a strong southerly wind into the competitors faces for the whole run, conditions were not ideal for setting fast times. Chris finished in 4 hours 36 minutes..

City runners begin their push back to the top posted 05.04
CITY of Edinburgh Athletic Club have a little over a month now to prepare for one of their most important fixtures of the season. Promoted back to division two of the British League when they clinched the division three title in dramatic style at the final match in Sheffield, City have been granted a home match at Meadowbank on Saturday, May 17, which will be vital to their chances of maintaining their status or even challenging for a return back to the exalted ranks of division one. | more |

Track season : Athletes prepare for hectic times 27/03
THE track-and-field season is now approaching and it will again involve a full programme of events and league matches throughout Scotland.

 

XCountry : Murray's fast track to world standard 12/03
FREYA Murray is so petite that you fear she might be trampled under the feet of the world’s great cross-country runners when she comes up against them later this month. But nothing can detract from the merit of her being fast-tracked to the highest level.

Murray, the 19-year-old student from Edinburgh, has been included in the British team for the World Cross Country Championships in Lausanne on 29 and 30 March, having only graduated from the junior ranks this year. [ more ]

 

XCountry : Partridge Excels In Italy 09/03
Scottish champion Sue Partridge staked a strong claim to be chosen for Great Britain's World Cross Country team after an inspirational performance in Italy on Sunday.
Partridge ran magnificently over a tough six-kilometre course in the tiny hamlet of San Vittore Olona, finishing sixth. . [ more ]

Track : First test for false-start rule in Glasgow 12/01
A CONTROVERSIAL new false-start rule will be given its first televised test at a leading indoor athletics meeting in Glasgow next month.
The “one-strike” ruling, introduced this year by the IAAF, the sport’s world governing body, will be in force at the Norwich Union international on February 2, despite the reservations of top sprinters. [ more ]

 

DATES SET FOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS
Scottishathletics Track and Field Commission met this week, part of the agenda was the dates and venues for next year's National Championships.

The following dates were agreed:
10/11 May, East & West Districts, Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh
11 May, North Districts, Queens Park, Inverness
1 June, Bank of Scotland U17/U20 Championships, Grangemouth,
5/6 July, Combined Events and Veterans Championships, Pitreavie
11/12 July, Sunday Mail Senior Championships, Scotstoun, Glasgow
24 August, U13/U15 Championships, Grangemouth

It was also agreed that new Scottish Record Certificates will be issued for national, native and age-group records set in 2002. It is thought there are likely to be around 100 recipients, including Susan Scott (800m), Darren Ritchie (long jump) and Emma Gray (U15 javelin).
The entry forms for the Indoor Championships have also been signed off and will be distributed in the next two weeks.
