The IAAF has announced that Daegu, Korea and Moscow, Russia will be the respective host cities of the 2011 and 2013 IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

After declaring the final results, IAAF President Lamine Diack said "I am convinced that each of these cities is more than capable of hosting excellent editions of our World Championships."

The election of the winning host cities took place at the recently completed IAAF Council meeting in Mombasa, Kenya. Although the votes will not be publicized, each winning candidate achieved an absolute majority in the first rounds of voting (at least 13 votes).

A record nine candidates submitted letters of intent to host the 2011 edition of the event. The full list of candidates included Brisbane,Australia, Split, Croatia, Madrid or Valencia, Spain, Casablanca, Morocco, Sweden, United Arab Emirates and USA.
