 Welcome to the World Championships of the Track section 

In 1983 Helsinki held the inaugural World Championships, and since then the IAAF has had countries host this prestigious Championships, second only to the Olympic Games.

Originally the Championships were held once every 4 years, however since the 1990's, they have been held every 2 years.

2011 and 2013 IAAF World Champs cities named
The IAAF has announced that Daegu, Korea and Moscow, Russia will be the respective host cities of the 2011 and 2013 IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

Women's Marathon Report and Results
Kenya yet again struck Gold in the Women's marathon of the Osaka World Championships. Catherine Ndereba underlined why she is known as 'Catherine the Great' by beating the highly fancied Chunxiu Zhou of China by a scant 7 seconds. In 3rd place we had the courageous Reika Tosa fighting to secure her country's first individual medal of the Champs. The battle at the front was tense with no prisoners taken or quarter given. Kenyan contiued their dominance of the 3000m SteepleChase at Championship events with the enigmatic 1-2-3 finish of their contry's athletes.

Men's 10000m Kenny Bekele is back
Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele is back from the brink, as he captures the 10000m title ahead of compatriot Sileshi Sihine. His winning time was 27:05.90 however the victory was significant in restoring his cofidence

Russia's Yekaterina Volkova sets a new Championship record with her winning time of 9:06.57

Men's Marathon Report and Results
Kenya struck Gold on the first day of the Osaka World Championships with Luke Kibet convincingly winning the Men's marathon ahead of former compatriot, , now of Qatar. Victor Rothlin of Switzerland took a surprising but deserved Bronze in a tightly contested 3rd place battle which was only decided in the last 2km of the event. Osaka, Japan – The 11th IAAF World Track and Field Championships begin with a bang on Saturday August 25 in Osaka, Japan with five Canadians in action on opening day. The 11th Worlds feature a record 203 participating countries.
