Who would have thought that the Austrian steeplechase runner, Günther Weidlinger, would recover significantly from his horrific accident during the Osaka World Champs in 2007 - see video To then return to the track and break the Austrian 10000m record with a time of 27:36.46 is an awesome display of resilience after such a trauma “I was looking for something like 27:45, so this was quite a bonus tonight,” the former steeplechase standout said. “This track is so wonderful to run on. My legs don’t feel tired at all!” Great comeback and with the Olympics beckoning hopefully more to follow

Saïd Aouita becomes the first man under 13 minutes for 5000m at the Roma track meeting in 1987. Having set a World Record earlier to break Dave Moorcraft’s record by fractions to a time of 13:00.40 in 1985, it was not expected that he would lower it to 12:58.39, especially being off the pace late into the race The record would stand for 7 years whereas Moorcraft’s time of 13:00.41 is still a UK record some 25 years later
