Jake Robertson leading New Zealander at junior world cross country

The New Zealand junior men's team finished 12th in the teams event at the world cross country championships in Fukuoka Japan yesterday.

New Zealand were ahead of Great Britain/Northern Ireland and Canada in the teams championship won by Kenya, for the eighth straight year, with 16 points.

Jake Robertson of Hamilton led the team in with his 46th placing in a time of 26m 2s for the 8km around the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park. Tim Hodge of Wellington was 56th in 26m 35s, Shafat Salad from Hamilton finished 67th in 26m 54s and Hayden McLaren of Christchurch 74th in 27m 19s for a team total of 243.

The race was won by Mangata Ndiwa of Kenya in 23m 53s. Ndiwa was fifth in the junior race last year.
