Reid Coolsaet and Dayna Pidhoresky crowned 2011 Canadian 10km Champions
Reid Coolsaet takes 10k title
TORONTO – Reid Coolsaet of Hamilton, Ont., and Dayna Pidhoresky of Tecumseh, Ont., won the 2011 Canadian 10km Championships today in Toronto, Ont., held in conjunction with Canada Running Series’ Oasis Zoo Run and the Timex National Road Race Series Finale. [Read more…]
Commonwealth Youth Games
OTTAWA – Caroline Morin-Houde of St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Que., and Shaina Harrison of Aurora, Ont., both won medals on the first day of track and field action at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Isle of Man. Morin-Houde and Harrison won silver and bronze respectively in the girls 100-metres, both stopping the clock in 11.81 seconds. 2015 Panamerican Junior
OTTAWA – Athletics Canada is pleased to announce that they have secured the rights to host the 2015 Panamerican Junior Athletics Championships, held every two years, the championships stack up the best under-20 competition for junior aged athletes outside of the IAAF World Junior Championships. Canada last hosted this event in 2005 when it took place in Windsor, Ont. [Read more…]
Canadians shine with 14 medals at Panamerican Junior Championship

OTTAWA – Athletics Canada sent the Panamerican Junior Championship team to Miramar, Florida with one simple objective, surpass the 13 podiums earned at the 2009 staging of this event. “I am very pleased with this team; they achieved their objective under less then optimal conditions. The athletes kept their focus through travel delays and extreme heat and humidity, responding with 14 medals, surpassing the 2009 medal count,” explains Head Coach Carla Nicholls. [Read more…]
Helly Visser
Victoria, BC – The Q’s Victoria Track – 77 year old Helly Visser of Vancouver, BC smashed the 75-79 age-group World Mile Record at the 4th meet of The Q’s Victoria Track Series. She bested the previous record by 10 seconds in 7:47.
Visser said, “I recently ran 8:05 in Calgary at a meet there, the World Record is 7:57, I don’t know if I can do it, but I am going to try”. She did, she ran 7:47. The first lap was well ahead of pace and announcer Paul O’Callaghan got the crowd cheering for her and she hung onto the World Record pace throughout. OTTAWA – This coming Saturday, May 14th, four Canadian communities will host HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games Day in Canada events. Hershey’s Track & Field Games Day in Canada selected events are targeted at youth aged participants and younger, typically hosted as part of a school or club event. Hershey’s Track & Field Games is the largest youth activity program of its kind in North America and provides an entry point to sport and recreation through running, jumping and throwing.

Each selected national event has been provided with a Promotional & Event Kit, they will also enter a draw with a chance at winning a $1,000 grant towards the support of grassroots athletics in their community.
The national athletics celebration was created as a way to raise awareness and participation in both the HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games program and grassroots athletics.
Tragic, devastating news, Emilie Mondor killed in car crash
It is with great sadness that Time-to-Run reports the tragic death of Canada’s fine athlete Emilie Mondor. Emilie Mondor, 25, died after a car crash Saturday, September 9th. Mondor was reportedly driving a compact car which overturned on Highway 417 in East Hawkesbury, Ontario. Mondor sustained life-threatining injuries in the crash, and died later in the evening after being transported to Ottawa Civic Hospital. [Read more…]

Personally, this year was a very different experience going to the Championships, a heavier load of pressure maybe, but also higher expectations for myself and for my team mates. For the first time, I was coming into a World Championships as a known contender for a top-ten placing and even be for a medal depending of the calibre of the race that is always very variable every year.
