It is so very much appreciated.”

During the opening ceremonies at today’s event, video footage from the KAF Canada Army Run, held earlier in the day at the Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan was shown on a giant screen near the start line. The KAF run, which drew more than 700 participants from multiple nations, mirrored the Ottawa event to the extent possible.

“Having a KAF Canada Army Run, particularly on the same day as the run in Ottawa, is important to Canadian Forces members here in Afghanistan,” said Brigadier-General Charles Lamarre, Commander of the Mission Transition Task Force (MTTF). “There is a tangible sense of pride in the Canadian Army and our success here in Afghanistan. We are happy to be sharing that with the people who are running the event in Ottawa.”

Fundraising efforts from both events generated close to $100,000 for Soldier On and the Military Families Fund, with donations still coming in. This total includes a $20,750 cheque presented during the Ottawa Awards Ceremony by the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School.

Results from 2011 Canada Army Run

Complete results are available here.

INDIVIDUAL TOP FINISHERS

5K Male

1st: Kevin Coffey (Kingston), 15:56.6
2nd: Robert Jewer (Halifax), 16:06.9
3rd: Richard Hayes (Kingston), 16:15.9

5K Female

1st: Kerri Lee Morgan Cook (Ottawa), 17:36.7
2nd: Caroline McInnes (Halifax), 17:40.1
3rd: Leah Larocque (Ottawa), 18:03.9

5K Male Ambulatory

1st: Nicolas Moquin (Gatineau), 24:46.3
2nd: Sean Chard (Ottawa), 26:08.8
3rd: Miles Smith (Ottawa), 35:30.8

5K Female Ambulatory

1st: Mila Kufrerova (Peterborough), 36:05.3
2nd: Barbara McKenzie (Kinburn), 38:21.5
3rd: Pamela Savage (Cornwall), 59:37.5

5K Male Amputees

1st: Tony DeAlmeida (Cantley), 27:10.2
2nd: Rick Rickard (Ottawa), 31:58.8
3rd: Christopher Hatton (Cole Harbour), 37:37.4

5K Female Amputees

1st: Kim Fawcett (Orleans), 26:16.2
2nd: Darlene Lofthouse (Peterborough), 36:31.9
3rd: Tori Beaman (Ottawa), 43:02.3

Half Marathon Male

1st: Joshua Karanja (Ottawa), 1:08:21.9
2nd: Nick Best (Victoria), 1:10:19.8
3rd: Matthew McInnes (Ottawa), 1:12:12.2

Half Marathon Female

1st: Rebecca Stallwood (Ottawa), 1:23:04.5
2nd: Jennifer Eberman (Toronto), 1:24:24.9
3rd: Hollie Gordon (Peterborough), 1:24:53.9

(Ottawa, September 18) – More than 16,000 Canadians and military personnel walked, ran, or rolled side-by-side in the fourth annual Canada Army Run, held today under clear, sunny skies in the nation’s capital. This sold-out event also brought together thousands more to cheer on participants in the 5K and half-marathon events.

[3,20,1
4,70
post-146","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-events","category-featured","category-news","tag-4","tag-canada-army-run
["GET
