The event was won by Spain&#8217;s Jose Martinez.<\/p>\n<p>10000m Men Winner Jose Manuel Martinez  Spain Time 27:47.65<br \/>\nJose Manuel Martinez of Spain held on to win the Men&#8217;s 10000m from Germany&#8217;s Dieter Baumann. The German made a late dash for victory and was unable to catch the Spaniard, however he was able to pass Martinez&#8217;s team-mate, Jose Rios, over the final 20 meters.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish are creating a nation of distance runners who believe in the ethics of teamwork and a win for one Spaniard is a win for all. Time-to-Run&#8217;s favourite to win the final is the French athlete, Bouaddellah Tahri, who was content to finish in 3rd qualyfing spot. Holland&#8217;s Simon Vroemen, the new European record holder ran a controlled race to easily take the second heat.<\/p>\n<p>Women&#8217;s 800m<br \/>\nKelly Holmes, the Commonwealth Games champion over 1500m, ran a controlled and comfortable race to qualify for the final. The Brit only moved to the front over the last 100m.
