Hi TheEd,

I was just wondering how much emphasis you place on running form? Is technique something that you think needs to be adjusted, or just left as is if the runner is comfortable and injury free.

I'd be interested in your thoughts, particularly after reading a couple of opposing schools of thought on the heel vs forefoot strike debate.

Don't change a working plan

In my years of coaching I have worked to alter certain aspects on the athlete when it assists in avoiding injury

one area that was the easiest part of changing form and technique was via the hand and arm movement

correct balance in the upper body and avoiding the cross-over of the plumbline worked wonders in correcting foot placement

all this forefoot running seems unnatural when viewing athletes who are simply not made to run that way

over to you

ps.. it has been a plan to add further data to the information section of time-to-run .. must certainly make time for this Smile

Okay, thanks for your comments. Back to running without thinking too much about how my foot lands!

Hi TheEd,

Things came together well for the 5km Parkrun today. I set a PB at 18:17, so 3:39 pace. My previous mark was 18:37 set back in April.

Unfortunately I had some issues with my watch so don't have any splits or HR info. Sometimes I think its liberating to run without the data/feedback from the watch. I was with the leading few runners for the first km or so before they started to edge away.

Thanks again for your comments and advice.

Dave

nice going DRUS

the faster you get over 5k the easier your 10k times become Wink

as for the data .. no need to correlate data during event however after the event the data can prove handy

onwards and forwards

Hi TheEd,

Just checking in after my latest 2km session. I had to work a bit harder to keep the 3:50 pace today and I guess it shows as I didn't manage to pick up the pace over the last couple as I'd planned.

Still happy with the session though, I think I'm on the right track.

Time | AHR | MHR | LHR
07:39 | 178 | 191 | 121

Hi Dave .. things do go like this, not all days can be great and as long as it comes together on the day of the event is the major success

sometimes life gets in the way of our running Wink

doing the sessions maintains consistency and who knows the 1k session may be very different

onwards and forwards

TheEd
ps.. what distance are you covering on your longest run currently?

10km training goal times - DRUS - 18-10-2012

The last long run was about 16km, so ~5:30/kms. I've increased the recovery runs to 12km which usually takes just a few minutes past the hour mark, so I'll let you know how far 90mins gets me on Saturday.

Just a side note to today's session, I rolled my ankle a little in the 4th rep. The arch of my foot is a little sore but it didn't trouble me walking around today. I've iced it tonight and will check in with the physio if it's bothering me t'row.

dang .. keep up the icing as it can work wonders

regarding the long run .. looking to build that up over time

here's to the recovery
