New goal half marathon
Dear TheEd
after 2 weeks of easy running and gaining less then 1kg body weight I am tomorrow starting 3 cycles which will end with a half marathon. I have no PB on a half marathon yet.
With my current form (3'56 10k) I think I should get 1h35 'easy' and aim to go under the 1h30?
Am I correct to keep doing the same cycle with targetting 3'55 2k sessions, doing 'normal' long runs of 1h30 which are usually around 18k for me, and that the half marathon pace has to be 4'06 (=10k pace + 10 sec?)
Kind regards,

Hi tallon, nice to see your development coming along so nicely.
there are a few ways to race the half marathon distance, which we can discuss as you get closer to the event
however, in preparation for the distance and especially if you have the 5 x 2k session under control, you could consider increasing your long run to 20k. Ideally, you should be looking to develop towards 25k over time, to gain the benefits from aerobic development. We can do this in steps, but good to mention now.
4.10 per k, should give you a decent 21k time
on we go

ps.. thank you for the donation, always appreciated

Cycle report
Dear TheEd:
this cycle was as follows:
2k:
4'04 bpm 150
4'03 bpm 162
4'01 bpm 169
4'02 bpm 170
4'01 bpm 173
long run: 4'38 155 bpm
1k:
3'50 bpm 138
3'49 bpm 157
3'45 bpm 163
3'57 bpm 168
3'56 bpm 166
3'49 bpm 172
5k: 3'57 bpm 166
race: Decided to do 1hr @ 4'10 to prepare for the half marathon, but could not maintain : did finally 4'21 average
Ended with resting bpm 55 and 74 kg.
I am feeling form went down a bit and I performed worse this cycle.
Starting new cycle tuesday and will up the long run to 1hr45
Kind regards

Hi Tallon, has there been any change in your morning pulse or anything that has happened to give you the feeling of a drop in form?
any flu bugs etc around you? Sometimes, you may not get sick but you may still carry the symptoms.
hoping the next cycle improves things

Update
Hello TheEd,
hope you are doing very well and thank you very much for asking!
I finished the half maraton in march just under 1h35 although and did not find the motivation for consistent training afterwards.
Next goal is a sub 1h30 and since July I'm training consistently on a personalized training program with 4-5 days of running per week. I keep learning from your expert tips here and will update my progress!
Good luck and enjoy to all fellow runners
