Ottawa – The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announced yesterday a lifetime ban effective August 2005 for shot putter Andrei Mikhnevich of Belarus.\u00a0 Mikhnevich’s lifetime ban means that Canadian thrower Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., will be awarded the bronze medal from the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships.\u00a0 Armstrong finished fourth at the 2010 World Indoors behind Mikhnevich who was third. <\/p>\n

“I am delighted to hear that the IAAF has taken the appropriate steps to resolve this case” explains Dylan Armstrong. “I also have faith in the IOC to take the appropriate steps towards reallocating the Olympic bronze medal to me and my country.”<\/p>\n

2010 World Indoor Championship revised medal positions – shot put<\/p>\n

Gold – Christian Cantwell, USA, 21.83m
\nSilver – Ralf Bartels, GER, 21.44m
\nBronze – Dylan Armstrong, CAN, 21.39m<\/p>\n

With the announcement of this sanction from the IAAF, it is now in the hands of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to decide on sanctions and revised results for the Olympic Games.\u00a0 If the IOC sees things the same way as the IAAF, Dylan Armstrong would be bumped from fourth place at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China to the bronze medal position.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
