{"id":496,"date":"2017-02-10T11:19:58","date_gmt":"2017-02-10T11:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/gn\/?p=496"},"modified":"2017-02-10T11:19:58","modified_gmt":"2017-02-10T11:19:58","slug":"peres-jepchirchir-sets-record-at-the-rak-half-marathon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/gn\/news\/peres-jepchirchir-sets-record-at-the-rak-half-marathon","title":{"rendered":"Peres Jepchirchir sets Record at the RAK Half Marathon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/gn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Peres-Jepchirchir.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-498\" title=\"Peres Jepchirchir\" src=\"http:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/gn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Peres-Jepchirchir.jpg\" alt=\"Peres Jepchirchir\" width=\"580\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/gn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Peres-Jepchirchir.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/gn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Peres-Jepchirchir-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nRas al-Khaimah, UAE &#8211; The RAK Half marathon yet again produced a world record, Kenya&#8217;s Peres Jepchirchir set a new world record* today,with a time of 1:05:06.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Peres Jepchirchir World Record at the RAK Half Marathon<\/h3>\n<p>The 23-year-old Kenyan, who won the world title over the distance in 2016, knocked three seconds from the previous record set by her compatriot Florence Kiplagat in Barcelona two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>On the way to this unexpected mark \u2013she suffered from pneumonia for two months at the end of 2016- Jepchirchir also clocked the 1:01:40 at 20km, the fastest ever in a mixed race, 14 seconds faster than Kiplagat&#8217;s performance, also set in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>Behind her, three-time RAK champion Mary Keitany smashed her own best, and very nearly the old world record, with a 1:05:13 clocking, while Joyciline Jepkosgei ensured a Kenyan clean sweep, crossing the newly positioned finish line in 1:06:08, a personal best by almost three minutes.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s contest, IAAF World Half Marathon Championship and World Cross Country silver medallist Bedan Karoki, so often the bridesmaid on road, track and cross-country, surged to victory over the last three kilometres, in a time of 59:10.<\/p>\n<p>Karoki richly deserved the win and the four-second personal best, having contributed enormously to the fast tempo being maintained in the second half of the race, once the pacemakers had stepped aside.<\/p>\n<p>In second, last year\u2019s fastest 10,000m runner Yigrem Demelash of Ethiopia, clocked 59:19, a lifetime best by 29 seconds, while the remarkable Augustine Choge, in only his third ever half marathon outing, also broached new ground with 59:26.<\/p>\n<p><em>source IAAF<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>RAK Half Marathon Leading Results<\/strong>:<br \/>\nMEN &#8211;<br \/>\n1.
