Vantaa Marathon boasts fast and flat race course

vantaa marathon

Vantaa Marathon takes pride in their fast and flat race course, where over the years, some decent course records have been established in both the marathon and half-marathon.

Vantaa Marathon course, fast and flat

The Finnish men have not managed under 2:30 in the marathon this year but Vantaa Marathon hopes to see this happen as it provides a flat and a fast course perfect for record times. The fastest Finnish woman this year has been Anne-Mari Hyyryläinen with a 2.34,12 marathon which is only a minute and a half slower than the men’s best time for this season.

– Last year’s winning time for men was 2.31.51, which is faster than this season’s best. Due to the flat, fast and protected marathon course the race director Harri Mannermaa recommends the Vantaa Marathon for those men and women who want to chase their season’s or personal bests.

In 2012 Lewis Korir managed a fantastic 2.13.36 in the marathon. Also the shorter races have seen some terrific times like Oona Kettunen’s 1.14,08 in the half marathon in 2013.

The half marathon is THE distance in Vantaa

– Year after year the half marathon distance attracts the most participants. In Vantaa, the half marathon consists of two approximately 10 km long loops.

The 42.2km marathon consists of 4 loops. The advantage of shorter loops compared to one long loop is the frequent water ‘service’ points and the amount of spectators and supporters with each loop on the course.

After event facilities add to the event, especially the swimming hall as well as the traditional Finnish coffee and buns after the race. This has received lots of praise from the participants.

Such traditions will continue to take place, promises Race Director, Mannermaa.

Vantaan Marathon relay for companies and groups

Vantaa Marathon offers a marathon relay for groups of four, which attracts companies, clubs and friends to take part. The relay is organised in the general men and women’s categories. Mixed teams will participate in the men’s race. According to Mannermaa, the relay is a great way to get involved in the marathon and enjoy the atmosphere if one is not prepared to run the full marathon.

– We wish all clubs, companies and friends welcome to join the relay!

The Vantaa Marathon will take place at the Tikkurila Sport Centre on Saturday the 8th October 2016.
