Kenyans Magdalyne Masai (2:20:23) and Sharon Chelimo (2:20:29) followed closely, rounding out a fiercely competitive podium.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Ethiopian Runners Dominate Windy Frankfurt Marathon<\/h2>\n<p>In the men\u2019s race, 29-year-old Ethiopian Belay Asfaw emerged as the surprise champion, clocking 2:06:16. Fellow Ethiopians Taresa Bekuma (2:07:01) and 2017 winner Shura Kitata (2:07:02) completed an all-Ethiopian top three.<\/p>\n<p>A record 17,000 runners registered for the marathon, with total participation\u2014including shorter distance events\u2014reaching 30,407. \u201cWe are happy that we have reached these figures. This is a new dimension,\u201d said Race Director Jo Schindler.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Frankfurt Marathon 2025\u00a0 Women\u2019s Race Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Buze Diriba led from the start, pacing herself wisely in the chilly, blustery conditions. Her halfway split of 69:25 put her on track for a sub-2:19 finish. Though Masai and Chelimo narrowed the gap around the 30 km mark, Diriba surged again to secure victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was my aim to run a fast time and attack the course record,\u201d Diriba said. \u201cBut with 10 km to go, my pacemaker dropped out. I focused on winning the race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her time ranks 15th on the 2025 world list and is the fifth-fastest ever run in Frankfurt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other standout performances:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; Abbie Donnelly (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalbuzz.net\/uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Britain<\/a>) placed eighth in 2:24:11, the fastest UK women\u2019s marathon time this year\u201414 seconds ahead of Eilish McColgan\u2019s London result.<br \/>\n&#8211; Lili Anna Vindics-Toth (Hungary) debuted with 2:28:15 (13th place).<br \/>\n&#8211; Laura Hottenrott (Germany) finished 14th in 2:28:17.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s Race Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s lead pack passed 10 km in 29:33, aiming for a sub-2:05 finish. However, headwinds from 14 km slowed the pace. Eleven runners reached halfway in 62:50.<\/p>\n<p>Between 27\u201330 km, Ethiopians Lulu Negera, Belay Asfaw, and Getachew Masresha broke away. Yismaw Yitayew later surged to the front, but Asfaw\u2019s decisive 2:53 split for the 37th km sealed his victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was well prepared, and despite the strong field, the victory came as no surprise to me,\u201d said Asfaw.<br \/>\nFive of the top ten men achieved personal bests, including Germany\u2019s Filimon Abraham, who finished ninth in 2:09:43\u2014just shy of his PB due to late-race fatigue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Results: Frankfurt Marathon 2025 Top 10 Men<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.
